Removing The Callous

The practice of the truth is the most profitable reading of it. -Spurgeon

I finally did it. I've been wanting to do it for awhile, but there was always something I was waiting on - someone to join in with me, someone to ask me directly. I'm not sure what it was. But I finally just did it. God sent two separate, direct messages on the subject, one from our outreach director at church and the other from C. H. Spurgeon. The message was basically this -

If God tells you to do something, just do it. Don't listen to truth then let it slide away. Don't grow callous to God's direction.

I finally sponsored a child with Compassion International. Her name is Genesis and she lives in El Salvador. This is something I've really wanted to do for a long time and I'm so glad I finally did it.

Hey God, do you see that? I'm learning to obey.

  1. I have a Compassion child, Karen in Columbia. I hope you'll be a better letter writer than I am. Maybe we can encourage each other. :)

  2. Wonderful! I'm so glad you shared this step with the Imperfect Prose community. And I love that her name is Genesis, since this is a "beginning" of something new for you, too. I hope it's the start of a beautiful relationship for you and Genesis!

  3. aww this post is so inspiring! (I love the pic by the way!)
obeying God can sometimes be a tough thing because our mind rolls around with doubts like, "is this really God speaking? what if it's just my own voice?!" (at least that is what happens in my brain!) and sometimes those doubts can keep me from going through with God's will.
but nothing compares to that joyful feeling of obedience to God and the happiness he brings you!
Congrats on your sponsored child! I bet you will have so much fun!
