Sunday Poetry

sticky like damp hothouse plastic
I have never not loved you
warm like a burdened donkey's back
you take that first begging step
heavy tornado-troubled skies
I'm underneath as you fall
first stinging mist on your eyelids
we meet - you are mine and new
wet finally, waterfall-drenched
then I am your everything
come, breathe new air above the water
you've taken and I've given
renewal - the peace rains have come
I have never not loved you

Yesterday was Courtney and her brother Garrett's birthday. To celebrate, a bunch of people from the college group and high school, went to Emily's and hung out, did a little swing dancing and once the rain started, hid inside from the severe tornado warning. After cake and snacks, we went to the living room and sat around in a circle, all sharing in turn our salvation stories. We ended talking about our current struggles and sins as well.

Lemme just say - intense. I don't think that group had ever gone that deep or been that vulnerable. I kept praying for protection from Satan. By the end, I felt like I actually knew my friends better than I ever had before. When we finished with prayer at around two in the morning, I felt exhausted, but my spirit was so refreshed.

Tenth Avenue North wrote a song called Healing Begins (off of James 5:16 '
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.'). Here are some of my favorite lines.

So you thought you had to keep this up
All the work that you do
So we think that you're good
And you can't believe it's not enough
All the walls you built up
Are just glass on the outside

So let it fall down
There's freedom waiting in the sound
When you let your walls fall to the ground
We're here now

Sparks will fly as grace collides
With the dark inside of us
So please don't fight
This coming light
Let this blood come cover us
His blood can cover us

This is where the healing begins, oh
This is where the healing starts
When you come to where you're broken within
The light meets the dark
The light meets the dark

When you take that leap and open up, realizing you're not going to be ridiculed, it's good to know you're not the only one who struggles with impurity, depression and apathy.

Love you guys! Let's keep being real.
