Snakes at Wilson's Leather

So Jak and I went shopping for formal dresses, right? We went to this great place called Wilson's Leather. Unfortunately, (maybe it's because we're suburbians or because we've been homeschooled) while we were there, somewhere in the midst of changing into dresses and parading them, Jak lost her phone. We didn't realize until we'd left and once we arrived back, it was missing entirely. For various reasons, we suspected one of the sales ladies, Peggy, who had been very chummy with us, giving us advice on the makes and colors and even looking for dresses for us.

I was thinking afterwards, what did we do wrong? If we had known who the thief would be, we could've been distrustful and stand-offish. But Jesus doesn't want us to be like that. He tells us to be wise as serpents (or snakes) and innocent as doves.

I wikipedied (hah! newest word ever!) snakes and doves to get some idea of how we're supposed to act.

"Serpents are represented as potent guardians of temples and other sacred spaces. This connection may be grounded in the observation that when threatened, some snakes frequently hold and defend their ground, first resorting to threatening display and then fighting, rather than retreat."

1) We can stand our ground. We don't need to be meek about what is right and wrong. Jesus wasn't.

"Documented deaths resulting from snake bites are uncommon."
2) Snakes rarely kill people. They are wise in their use of venom. Our words are powerful and we should use them cautiously.

"White doves are a traditional Christian and Jewish symbol of love and peace."
3) We can be at peace, even when bad things happen to us. God is sovereign and everything that happens will be judged.
