Promise Me

Promises are funny things. I can't keep them. For some of you who know me well, you've probably experienced my letting you down. Sometimes, it's an accident. Sometimes, an oversight. I'm sorry, by the way. I wish I didn't disappoint people.

Human promises are a beached ship. They look nice, big and kind of useful, but they don't do much.

When God promises something, it's as steadfast as the sky; maybe slow, but sure to come.
"His going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers,
as the spring rains that water the earth."

God never says, "I'll promise you if you'll promise me." He never makes conditions, or asks us to deserve his grace. In fact, it's wrong if we try. We just have to look up, to him.

And when we do, he can blow down from his sky of faithfulness and send our ships off the beach and into the ocean of doing his will, keeping our words and fulfilling the promises we make.

  2. Aww. I sure am not good at keeping promises. Especially the ones to myself. Heh. At least there's one person in our lives who actually keeps promises. =)
