I've Been Looking For The Answer, Somewhere

In my usual Jesse McCartney music video watching, I discovered a very ironic situation that I don't think even the movie makers noticed. In Jesse's music video Because You Live, he's singing about how his girl saved him from depression and basically saved his life, intercut with moody shots of him walking down the street, hood up and earbuds in, sitting on the beach or in the backseat of a car. Some of the lyrics -

Staring out at the rain with a heavy heart
It's the end of the world in my mind
Then your voice pulls me back like a wake up call
I've been looking for the answer
Somewhere
I couldn't see that it was right there
But now I know what I didn't know

Because you live and breathe
Because you make me believe in myself when nobody else can help
Because you live, girl
my world has twice as many stars in the sky

Because you live, there's a reason why
I carry on when I lose the fight
I want to give what you've given me, always

Throughout the video, I kept thinking that the attitude of looking to a person for salvation was so wrong. As I was watching for about the twentieth time, I saw as he's walking down the street that the back of his hoodie says, 'Lord Have Mercy.'

I've been looking for the answer
Somewhere
I couldn't see that it was right there

  3. wow. That's amazing. It kinda reminds me of the quote by Blaise Pascal "There's a God-shaped hole in every heart"

  4. oh oh, love this. I love when things meant for worldy pleasure (the lyrics at least-Finding Joy in girls) are able to be used for God glorifying reminders! Thanks for this!

  5. That's pretty awesome. (= You always hear Romans 8:28 (God working all things for the good, etc.) in the context of disasters/bad situations, but it turns out it really does mean ALL things. ^_^
